COPEDIM (COPPER PEDIMENT) (Dir. S.Carretier and R. Riquelme)

COPEDIM is an  International Joint Laboratory  (LMI) of IRD. It involves the laboratory Géosciences Environnement Toulouse (France), the Universidad Catolica del Norte (Antofagasta, Chile), Universidad de Chile (Santiago Chile), INGEMMET Lima (Peru) and the Universidad Nacional de Ingeneria Lima (Peru). This laboratory aims at better understanding the process leading to flattening the mountain ranges and the associated mineralization of copper and other metals within major erosion surfaces (pediments). Study sites are  in Chile and Peru. The originality of COPEDIM is to federate  geomorphologists, geochemists and structuralist in order to address issues both fundamental (roles of changes in climate, weathering, erosion, geodynamics) and applied (geomorphological guide for exploration).
